Ah, it's the holidays and it's time to reflect upon life and do some "productive stuff" like clearing emails and phone photographs. Upon clearing my phone pictures, I observe a certain trend and pattern my phone photos have from secondary school, JC and up til university, and it's probably quite similar to most students alike (being the very average student I am who always procrastinate). I thought to myself and decided to categorise these typical moments into 5 groups. Thus, here are the 5 Typical Phone Photos you will undoubtedly find in a Student's Photo Gallery.
1) Obviously, Selfies
Tell me I'm pretty, pretty please?
Be it with friends, with homework or with the toilet, we somehow end up taking a selfie. We usually have nothing better to do or get so damn sick of researching for literature reviews, listening to webcasts, completing an assignment or just plain studying that we just like trying to look good in our photos, though university/school life has taken much of our beautiful complexions away. Yet our individualistic mindset would tell us "DAMN I LOOK HAWT TODAY" and we take an extra 30 shots of our faces - the last sentence is probably only applicable to girls.
2) Mandatory celebratory pictures on completing group assignments/ presentation
Woohoo A+!
Hurrah! Assignment is done. Come, let's take a photo together! It is almost compulsory to do this every time a group assignment or presentation. Don't tell me you never do that. Even groups members that hate each other would force a smile just to tell everybody "this
shit is over, finally." And most likely you try not to stand beside the person you dislike most in the group because you just don't feel comfortable looking like close friends with him/her.
3) Study Material like textbook pages and study notes
Interesting psychology stuff
Being the technology dependent and savvy teenagers we are, we would of course use modern day advances to our advantage. Lots of pictures of notes, notes and more notes, even your whatsapp media page to your friends are all lines, scribbles and texts off a book or foolscap which you had frantically message to ask them how to do and stuff.
Or sometimes, you just take these photos because you wanna take stupid funny stuff to show people weird things you see on textbooks/study notes and share the
joy of learning.
4) Lecture Slides
Cool eco ad!
Ah, they make up the category of study material but in a sub category of "kind of useful but actually also quite useless" things. Things to take note off a lecture slide not uploaded online would be also taken by us
kiasu kids which 70% of time is never used. After all, lectures comprise textbook, readings and your notes.
5) Food
NUS' Famous Yong Tau Fu at Arts
Because we study,
having food for lunch/dinner (I meant to phrase it this way!) is like having a glorious moment away from studies that we just have to take a picture of our joy outside the studying world. Often over glorified on Instagram, it never seize to look appetising most of the time and make hungry students go hungrier.
Yea, cool relatable school stuff, man....... dotz.
